I am finding it challenging to write a post on this computer.
This seems odd, because I actually started my blog on this computer. (The “b” key is missing. You’ve really been reading a long time if you understand that reference. “Let it ee … let it e!!”)
The computer is in a funny place in the family room and mostly for the children’s use these days. My laptop, however, threw up all over me last week and finally had to go in for repair. I cried, yes I did. I am over it now.
The desktop photo on this computer is of Mare and Ren, when they were the ages Ren and Eden are now. I have too many freaking children. They all look the same to me.
It’s hard to sit in one place too long and work, the kids come after me or the dryer beeps (my pennance to the Gods of luck — how about I do laundry and you give me my freaking laptop back?).
Last night we went to the circus. I can’t even tell you how awesome it was. I can’t, because the name of the circus has an astonishing number of “b’s” in it. And I can’t because the photos on my camera aren’t going to upload easily to this machine and I am all done crying and swearing at computers this week. So you’ll have to wait.
Per my code of ethics — before I proceed I have to tell you the circus gave my family free tickets and asked me to write a review. But also per my code of ethics, if I hadn’t liked it, I would have declined to write about it no matter how many tickets they gave me.
So my vote on the circus? Magical. Big eyes, bright faces, sighs and laughs and all kinds of good stuff. The word? The dumb, can’t-believe-I-am-using-it-but-at-least-it-doesn’t-contain-a-b-word?
Wholesome.
Popcorn and cotton candy and clowns and acrobats and music for two hours. No commercialism, no freaky-deaky theme songs or crazy characters for me to hate for the next few months. Just really sweet family entertainment that made my girls’ eyes shine.
Pictures when the laptop comes back. Meantime, Boston area moms — my guess is elsewhere, too — you can get tickets, 4 for $40 bucks for the weeknight shows by going to Ticketmaster.com and typing “MOM” as your coupon code. The food and treats are wicked expensive, and parking is, too. But if you take the T to North Station it’s cheaper and easy.
And really freaking wholesome-I-can’t-believe-I-used-that-word.

I took mine to the very same circus show when they started their tour here in February. As a child I remember liking the circus. As an adult, I loved it! And loved seeing my daughter love it, too.
We went last Saturday for my twins’ third birthday. They really liked it. The only shocker was that my son didn’t like the cotton candy. What kid doesn’t like pure, spun and dyed refined sugar??
What seats did you have? I’m not sure what section to buy. I’d love to only pay $15/ticket, but I don’t want to have to buy everyone binoculars. I’d love to know your thoughts regarding seating at The Garden.
Jenn — we had Loge (sp?) seats. I have to tell you that I have been afraid of taking my kids to the Garden and was so pleased that it’s actually manageable and doesn’t feel huge. To me it seemed like there weren’t any bad seats. Especially at the circus because the show is huge and a lot of it takes place up high.
I don’t know what seats you get under the 4/40 deal, but if someone finds out let me know.
Does the circus do animal acts? That’s always been my one reservation, since I have some traumatic memories from seeing animals at the circus as a kid and worrying about whether they were being treated well.
I’m all for the Cirque de Soleil-type shows.
Unfortunately, Ringling Bros is currently involved in a federal lawsuit for abusing their elephants. In recent years, former employees have claimed there was abuse towards other animals as well.
I would love to think that Ringling Brothers, which has been around for well over a century, would treat their animals better than anyone else. I went to the circus when I was a child and thought it was truly magical!
Interesting. DH and I have talked a bit about circus-going with our four year old. However, like Jennboree says, I do worry about endorsing animal cruelty, so the jury’s out on this one for me.
Oh no, really? They’re being sued? That totally sucks, I had no idea. There were horses, dogs, elephants and tigers there. I’m a pretty sensitive animal person and didn’t find this uncomfortable. But what would I know? Yeah, I would be pretty unhappy if I found out I were endorsing animal cruelty.
We did Cirque de Soleil with the kids last year and they liked this better. But yeah, if they’re abusing animals I wouldn’t want to go again. I hope it’s not true.
no circuses with animals for me, ever. ugh.
Can’t do it. Scared of clowns. ‘Nough said.
