How is Eden?

Did such a small, anonymous little girl ever have so loyal a following?

Thank you all for your notes, your prayers, your good wishes. It does mean a lot.

Eden’s weight is climbing slowly. Her liver enzyme numbers are not radically changed. So the plan is to give it time. Let her weight come up, let her spend a summer in the sun with her sisters, with giggles and naps and snuggles, and see if that doesn’t make everything tons better. That’s my plan, anyway.

We will continue to weigh her, but unless she stops gaining again the little thing gets a break from needle sticks for a while. She’ll do a repeat blood panel at the end of the summer. Our hope is that it just needs more time to go down, and that it will be over and we will never quite know what it was.

I think I will experience a lot of dread the night before we stick her again, the night after when I wait for the results, the following day, waiting for the phone to ring. But I am glad for the respite between now and then.

  • And she will be continue to be in our prayers until we hear the good news.

  • I think your plan sounds perfect. She will be in my thoughts and prayers also – as will the rest of your family.

I hope you all have a lovely summer.

  • I’m glad she is getting a break. I LOVE the new picture of her. She is adorable and looks edible, too. ;)

  • Heyyyy! WHat’s this, calling our Eden anonymous?

We all feel like we know her!

    :)

  • Wow to that new picture of her on the sidebar! Yet another gorgeous girl to join your family. I hope your summer plan works, she sure looks healthy:)

  • Glad to hear it! Through my work, I see the power of a mother’s love all the time. Sometimes all the tests and medicine in the world doesn’t compare to love, snuggles and giggles!

  • Thanks for the update! I come to your site everyday with fingers crossed. I love the idea of giving “our” girl the summer off.
    WE LOVE YOU EDEN!!!

  • Sounds like a great way to spend the summer.

Here’s hoping for much health and happiness for all of you.

  • What a lucky girl, to have such a smart mommy. :)

  • Liz,

Very glad for the update, and it sounds like a great plan! One hiccup, because I know you are in MA too: WHAT SUN!?!?!?!?

    Contemplating a move to Cabo,

  • We are definitely praying for you and your sweet, sweet little girl.

When I was 18, two weeks away from graduating high school, I turned bright yellow and extremely itchy. Our neighbor (who was a doctor) told my parents to take me into the hospital right away. They immediately admitted me, simply because of my color, and began the blood work. They thought for sure I had hepatitis. However, all the blood work came back negative. My liver enzymes were off the charts.

They were extremely concerned and so they even did a liver biopsy, which required me going all the way under and taking a little chunk of my liver to test it. My liver proved to be perfect. They could not figure out what was going on. After over a week in the hospital, they had to discharge me because they said there was ‘nothing more they could do.’ I was feeling great, but still yellow as a sunflower.

They did refer me to University of Washington Medical program where they did some more tests and essentially labeled me a mystery. Eventually a few weeks later the yellow and the itchiness went away, and in the many years since it hasn’t ever come back. (My mom swears it was prayer, and I’m pretty convinced, too.)

All of this to say, there is a great chance it will turn out to be exactly what you hope- that it just disappears and you’ll never know quite what it was.

    Take care!

  • Your summer “giggle and snuggle” plan sounds wonderful! The new picture of Eden is adorable! What a cutie!! Glad to hear that she is doing well and that you all get a break from the tests for awhile. Have fun with your three adorable girls!!

  • Hi,
I just looked at Eden’s picture on the side – what a beautiful baby! Look at her – there is nothing-wrong-with-that-child – she’s perfect. Maybe even a match for her older sister (and I don’t mean Mary!) She’s just growing along at her own pace.

By the by, did you know you look like one of the newspeople on CNN in the morning?

  • Maybe it’s just me, but Eden is the happiest looking sick kid I ever saw. She looks great-she must have hermomma’s spunk:) We’ll keep pushing for liver enzymes to match.

  • I’m so glad she’s doing well. I logged on wondering…now how is Eden doing? Thankfully you answered my question! Do you read minds? ;)
I’ll keep your family and little Eden especially in my prayers.

  • Also- thanks for posting the new pic– she looks great!

  • So so SOOO glad to hear that she’s doing better. MORE PICS!

  • Liz,

Your plan sounds wonderful! Just relax during the summer and don’t think about tests. I’m glad doctors decided to give you a break. So wise…

I concur with everybody else here: Eden looks lovely. What a gorgeous good looking baby! She looks so healthy too!

We will all be thinking of you and sending lots and lots of positive thoughts and energy.

    Many kisses,

    Virginia
