Sunbeam is back from vacay. The girls lost their minds when she came in the door, covered her in loves, and within minutes Mare was making art, Doodle was naked, Sunbeam was supervising, and all was well with the world.
And then this:
“Sunbeam? Could you please get me da scissors?”
“Oh, such nice manners, Ren. But no, Sweetie, I don’t think so.”
“I just want to cut some paper. Paper. Dat’s all.”
“No, Baby, no scissors.”
“Why not?”
Da Momma: Elizabeth, a journalist and college instructor. Formerly a latte-slinging, cell phone-talking Washington political junkie. Now a wild-dancing accidentally offensive woman with an irrational passion for flinging things on the floor and hanging things from ceilings. Wants you to think she's a grown-up, even though she calls her Dad the minute things get complicated.
Baby Eden: The Schmoopy. My sweet little Three, who shrank instead of grew. But she's always had Momma's back.
Mary: Devoted to hermit crabs and FREAKING OUT. Made me a mother.
Karenna: Peekaboo Streak. The Roodle, Doodley. Everybody knows about Roo. Passionate about folk music. Some werewolf tendencies. Always looking for new employees. Sophisticated vocabulary
Cute Husband, Esq: A former Marine, it was he who instilled in our daughters a love of getting up very early in the morning to go off and do things. Some days he's lucky he's still alive.
Moonbeam and Sunbeam: Yes, okay, somehow or other they got the same sorta names as our cats, Moonlight and Sunshine. That was a total accident. However, like the cats, they are super-cuddly, will get food for themselves if hungry, and they're part of the family. Like the rest of the family, they believe in the power of liquor, drugs, and hot glue. They have no fear of blood.
The Beasties: Two cats. And some cacti that refuse to die. This is a picture of a fish we killed a long time ago. Need to update that.

Yeah I have a feeling Ren and scissors are not going to be interacting for awhile!
We have a pool going on whether Ren can actually make herself bald before Eden gets here. I personally think her chances are pretty good, but I am giving it the old college try at stopping her.
I never went through a hair cutting phase, but my mother assures me that it’s only because I wasn’t allowed to touch anything of the sort as a child; she said I had sneaky eyes.

That’s hysterical that she wouldn’t give Roo the scissors! I can just imagine her little blue eyes looking up at her with the sweet little devil look (for those of you who haven’t seenthis, it’s like Cindy Lou Hoo’s face with Stew Griffin’s mind). “I just want to cut some paper. Paper. That’s all.” meantime inside she’s thinking she’s Fredrick Faki and how wonderful poor Sunbeam would look with a sassy bob! For some odd reason I see our darling Roodle opening a salon on 5th sometime in the distant future… either that or the dictator of some banana republic with a wicked sense of style! …Yes, these are Versace fatigues with Chanel boots…Now You Must Die!
Ahhh, Ren is a little smarty but Sunbeam has her number. You sure Sunbeam can’t just college homeschool?
I’m a college kid and I would kill to be someone’s sunbeam! Lucky her getting to spend so much time with your incredible family.

I used to be a damn good Sunbeam. What are the odds it’ll translate to good parenting?! (Yes, it’s soon, and yes, I’m flipping out.)
