Viewfinder, into the woods
Aw, so sweet …

… and then this is how you know it is our family:

We went on a walk through the woods. We found a tall purple flower, blooming in a patch of sunlight. The sun coming through the leaves, lighting the bark of the trees, the shimering purple, were breathtaking. I took an endless series of pictures and couldn’t capture it.

I have about fifteen versions of that shot.
I wanted the detail of the flower, the light, the crinkly brown of the trees behind it. Then I realized it was too much. I had to choose. So I focused on the flower, bathed in the natural light, and somehow the rest of the story lingered in the background.

The first thing I thought of when you said, “it was too much, I had to choose” Isn’t that motherhood? We can’t have everything, we have to choose and family is it! Signed, the mother of two wonderful teens and wife of wonderful man! I LOVE your blog and LOVED your book! Write another!! (and save one specifically for teens!)

Very impressed that you are venturing out into the woods after the recent Lyme bout. You are feeling better? And inspecting every inch of every little and big bodies with military precision?
Really enjoying your blog this summer. (Except for the horse thing, I just don’t get horses. But that’s just me. ) Both of your kids have such great personalities. Thanks for sharing them so well.
